Why I Teach:

"As a faculty member, I firmly believe in the importance of approaching, mentoring,  and guiding future health care professionals while serving as a guide and catalyst engaging students in critical thinking, reasoning, research, and evaluation while providing safe, holistic, and effective nursing care.  To encourage the utilization of humanistic knowledge, nursing theory, and evidence based practice to promote health and healing both at clinical and community centers applying a client-family centered focus while learning and developing the multifaceted roles of the professional nurse."

  • Domestic Violence Among Hispanic Immigrant Population and the Spanish English Domestic Violence Handbook

Research:

Domestic violence (physical, sexual, dating violence, abuse during pregnancy) domestic violence at the end of life, and violence prevention especially among vulnerable and ethnic minority populations and the contribution of violence and trauma to health disparities, including HIV/AIDS.  In addition, I have a strong interest in Public health nursing with emphasis in minority and immigrant health, Ethics, qualitative and community-based participatory research methods.
