Welcome to the Wesley College Physical Education K-12 Program. Teaching Physical Education can lead to a fulfilling career of modeling health and well-being for the next generation. As a physical educator, you are in the position to shape the hearts, minds, and bodies of young people.
Our program is a four-year undergraduate program nationally recognized by NASPE (National Association of Sports and Physical Education) for the preparation of physical educators. The PE K-12 Program has high expectations for our students and expects them to be engaged in the major while becoming expert teachers. We develop this expertise through a competency-based, fieldwork intensive curriculum that prepares students to teach physical education from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. This results in graduates who enter their profession confident and able to deal with the many challenges currently faced by public school teachers. The program emphasizes such topics as fitness and wellness development and assessment, motor development, anatomy and physiology, using technology in teaching, scientific techniques in observation and analysis of skill performance, as well as a thorough preparation in teaching methods.
The program and Wesley College provide academic support for our students to prepare them to pass Praxis I in order to enter the Physical Education K-12 Program and then to pass the Praxis II in order to qualify for student teaching and become a certified teacher. Teacher candidates can elect to become certified to teach Driver's Education.
Here you will find a program of study, handbooks, and rubrics. These are tools to help you proceed through the three levels of the Physical Education K-12 Program from your freshman year through graduation. Faculty members are happy to answer any questions that may arise.
Great things await you at Wesley College and in the Physical Education K-12 Program. Welcome. We look forward to walking through this learning experience with you to help you achieve your dreams.
