Thomas dropped in 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting and added three boards, two blocks and a steal in the Rt. 13 rivalry vs. Salisbury. Saturday, Thomas drained 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting, including 4-for-6 from long range, and added eight rebounds and two thefts in a win over Hood.

Jan 22, 2009 – Rashawn Johnson featured on CAC website – Wesley College's
Rashawn Johnson (Selbyville, Del./Sussex Tech) was featured in the Introducing… section this week by the Capital Athletic Conference. To read about Rashawn, visit

Jan 17, 2009 - Wesley Stampedes Past Blazers - Wesley College's Rashawn Johnson (Selbyville, Del./Sussex Tech) and Evan Martin (Wilmington, Del./Laurinburg Institute {N.C.}) combined for 53 points as the Wolverines defeated Hood College 102-88 in Capital Athletic Conference action. The win kept Wesley (8-5) undefeated in CAC play at 5-0 and also extended the team's win streak to five. Johnson and Martin combined to hit 20-of-33 field goals and 7-of-16 threes in the game. They were not the only Wolverines to come up with big games. One game after setting a career-high, Rudy Thomas (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech) nailed five threes on his way to another career-best with 17 points. The Wolverines hounded Hood (5-10, 2-4 CAC) into a season-high 31 turnovers and held a 33-8 advantage in points off turnovers. The Blazers started quickly, getting behind the Wolverine defense several times in the opening minutes on the way to a 16-5 lead after a fast break lay up by Tim Abercrombie with 15:01 to go in the half. A jumper by James Stratton (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) 14 seconds later ignited a 13-2 Wesley surge that tied the game at 18-18 on an electrifying fast break dunk by Johnson, with an assist from Martin with 11:20 remaining. With the score tied at 48-48, Martin found Thomas for an easy basket with six seconds left to send the Wolverines into the locker room ahead by two. The second half was all Wesley as the Wolverine hit nine of their first 11 threes of the stanza as their lead grew to as many as 23 after a lay up by Martin with 6:57 to go. Martin had seven assists to go along with his 24 points. Alphonzo Wright (Dover, Del./Polytech) stuffed the stat sheet for 12 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Hood, who lost for the eighth time in its last 10 games, was led by 21 points by Abercrombie. J'Air Brady added 19 points, while Jeff Willison had 18 and Tyler Snoots chipped in with 13. It was the second straight game Wesley topped 100 points, as the Wolverines finished 14-of-34 (41 percent) from three point range.
Jan 19, 2009 - Wesley Runs Win Streak to Six - Wesley College's Rashawn Johnson (Selbyville, Del./Sussex Tech) poured in 30 points as the Wolverines remained unblemished in CAC action with a 93-85 win over York (Pa.). The senior guard sank 10-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-8 threes, and all six of his free throws on his way to his fourth 30 point game of the season. After holding a tenuous 42-40 lead at the half, Wesley (9-5, 6-0 CAC) caught fire, hitting 61 percent (17-of-28) in the second half behind 7-of-10 from beyond the arc to run its win streak to six straight games. The Wolverines needed every basket, however, as the teams traded leads 10 times in the first 9:40 of the second half. That was when Evan Martin (Wilmington, Del./Laurinburg Institute {N.C.}) hit a jumper to put Wesley ahead 62-61 and the Wolverines never trailed again. Two of Kevin Johnson's (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) 18 points built the lead to nine, 87-78, with 1:42 to play. The Spartans (4-12, 2-5 CAC) responded with a three by Julian Watson and a Nick Brady jumper to cut it to four, 87-83, with just 43 seconds left. Rashawn Johnson hit four free throws down the stretch to hold off the Spartans. Kevin Johnson hit 6-of-10 field goals, including a 3-of-5 effort from beyond the arc. Martin added a game-high eight assists. Rudy Thomas (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech) scored in double figures for the third straight game with 10 points. Brady came off the bench to lead York with 21 points. Fellow reserve Paul Kouvaris hit 9-of-11 field goals to turn in a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Jeremy Keefer chipped in with 14 points, while Matt Moley tossed in 10. The Wolverines turned 22 Spartan turnovers into 27 points to overcome a 49-25 deficit on the glass. Johnson continued his hot play and is now 20-of-32 in the last two games, averaging 29.5 points per game over that time.
Jan 21, 2009 - Wesley Outlasts Mary Washington - Wesley College outscored the University of Mary Washington 14-5 in overtime to claim a 92-83 win in a key match up atop the Capital Athletic Conference standings. With the win, the Wolverines remained unbeaten in conference play at 7-0, while the Eagles fell to 5-2. Wesley committed just four turnovers in the entire game, while forcing Mary Washington into 21. The result was a 32-5 advantage in points off turnovers. After Mary Washington (8-7) took an 80-78 lead in overtime off a pair of free throws by Kevin Storus, James Stratton (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) hit a three and a jumper in the span of 34 seconds to give the Wolverines (10-5) a three point advantage. Ben Stokes sank a free throw to cut it to 83-81, but Wesley scored nine of the game's final 11 points to put it away. Stratton came off the bench to score 24 points, including 12 in the second half when Wesley erased an 11-point deficit in the final 11:45 to force overtime. The Eagles still led by as many as 10, 63-53, after a three by Stokes with 8:31 to play. The Wolverines then went on an 11-2 run, capped by a Rashawn Johnson (Selbyville, Del./Sussex Tech) three-point play that cut it to one point, 65-64, with 6:27 remaining. Kiernan Whitworth scored to put the Eagles back ahead before Jermaine Carter (Richmond, Va./Thomas Jefferson) sank a three from the wing to tie the game 67-67 with 4:45 left. The Wolverines could not get the lead down the stretch, but tied the game four more times down the stretch, including a pair of free throws by Stratton with 26 seconds to go in regulation that sent he game to overtime tied at 78-78. In addition to Stratton's big play down the stretch, Johnson scored 17 of his game-high 26 in the second half and overtime. The senior also had four steals. Evan Martin (Wilmington, Del./Laurinburg Institute {N.C.}) also reached double figures with 15 points. Wesley held Mary Washington's Matt Hale, the second leading scorer in the CAC, to just 14 points. Brandon Altmann had a stellar game in the loss with 19 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. Stokes came off the bench to score 17 points, including 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. Whitworth added 16 for Mary Washington. The win was the Wolverines' seventh in a row as Wesley remained the one unbeaten team in conference play.

Jan 19, 2009 - Thomas Named CAC Player of the Week - Wesley College's Colleen Thomas (Howell, N.J./Howell) was named the CAC Player of the Week for her efforts in a pair of Wolverines victories last week. Thomas 18 points per game and shooting 60% from the field as the Wolverines won two CAC games and stayed within one game in the loss column of being in first place.
Jan 17, 2009 - Wolverines cruise past Hood - Wesley's Colleen Thomas (Howell,NJ/Howell) led the Wolverines (8-6, 4-1 CAC) to a romping 80-50 victory against the overmatched Blazers of Hood College (3-12, 1-5 CAC) at the Wentworth Gymnasium. Thomas led all scorers with 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the floor, including 4 of 6 from behind the arc. Wesley shot incredibly well from behind the arc, draining a Capital Athletic Conference record 16 threes in the game. Wesley built a quick 22-2 lead by the 10 minute mark of the 1st half. Thomas was hot early dumping in 12 points in the first half. As a team Wesley shot 43.2 percent in first half. Hood on the other hand had trouble holding onto the ball. The Blazers committed 16 turnovers in the half. Wesley's Michele Mules (York, PA/Susquehannock) and reserve Ambre Burbage (Seaford, Del./Seaford) added two three pointers in the first half finishing the with six points each. Wesley held a sizeable 40-14 lead going into the locker room. It didn't get much better for the visiting Blazers in the second half as Wesley shot even better from the field. Thomas added 9 more before hitting the bench for reserves. Most of Wesley's starters were pulled with at least 7 minutes remaining, but that didn't stop the scoring. Reserve guard Shavonda Cephas (Milford, Del./Milford) added 10 of her 12 points in the second half draining two three pointers and four shots at the charity stripe. Guard Latasha Torres (Sharon Hill, PA/Academy Park) finished with 11 and fellow guard Cory Boyd (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) added 8 and a game high 10 assists.
Jan 19, 2009 - Ranked YCP Team Too Much for Wesley - In a battle of a pair of streaking teams, Wesley College fell victim to a York (Pa.) ranked No. 17 by D3hoops.com in an 89-59 Spartan victory at the Grumbacher Center. The Wolverines (8-7, 4-2 CAC) had won seven of their last eight, but York (14-1, 7-0 CAC) extended its win streak to 14 games. Wesley's Angie Owens (Seaford, Del./Seaford) continued her strong play with her ninth double-double of the year with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Cory Boyd(Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) added 13 points and nine rebounds. The most prolific three-point shooting team in Division III, however, the Wolverines had an uncharacteristic night from beyond the arc, hitting just 5-of-29 from beyond the arc. Two Spartans, meanwhile, made five apiece. Kelli Ward hit 5-of-7 on her way to a game-high 24 points, while Amanda Andrews sank 5-of-13 in an 18 point evening. York came out firing, hitting 9-of-16 threes in the first half on their way to a 51-28 halftime lead despite 10 points and 10 rebounds from Owens. Latasha Torres (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) came off the bench to lead the Wolverines with five assists. Ward added 10 rebounds for a double-double in the win. April Sparkman scored 23 points for the Spartans.
Jan 21, 2009 - Wesley Shocks Mary Washington - Wesley College pulled off its biggest win of the season, upsetting No. 19 Mary Washington 52-48 in a defensive struggle. Wesley (9-7, 5-2 CAC) carried a 22-19 lead into the half as both clubs struggled offensively. The Eagles (13-3, 5-2 CAC) scored the first four points of the second half, however, to claim a 23-22 lead with 17:36 to go. A lay up by Cory Boyd (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) and a Colleen Thomas (Howell, N.J./Howell) three pointer around a three by Ashley Warhurst gave Wesley a 27-26 lead with 16:03 to play. A Katy Larson triple got the advantage back for the Eagles, who would eventually stretch their lead to as many as five. The Wolverines battled back, however, and after a Latasha Torres (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) three tied the game, Allison Beddia (New Castle, Del./Delcastle) put Wesley ahead for good with a pair of free throws with 9:07 to go in the game, 39-37. The game remained close the entire way, with the Wolverines never leading by more than four points. The Eagles cut it to just a single point with 1:17 to go after a basket by Katie Wimmer, 49-48, but a free throw by Boyd and two by Michele Mules (York, Pa./Susquehannock) down the stretch iced the game. Boyd led all scorers with 15 points and also managed four assists. Beddia grabbed nine rebounds and had a career-high five blocks. Larson and Ashton Mitchell had 10 apiece Mary Washington, while Wimmer hauled in 11 rebounds. Wesley's victory brought the Wolverines into a tie for third in the CAC standings with the Eagles.
