Wesley Senior to Receive Award

Senior biological chemistry major Aaron Givens will receive the 2012 Delaware-American Chemical Society Undergraduate Chemistry Award at their Education Awards Banquet on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, De. Biology Students Present Research at Symposium

This summer biology majors Amber Wiltbank and Jonie Woodard completed a 9-week NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Delaware State University. The program trained students in Molecular Genetics and Genomics. The experience concluded with a symposium during which students presented posters of their research results. Dr. Lynn Everett, professor of biology, served as their academic mentor. This was Wesley’s sixth year of participation in the REU.[more]

Wesley College research results used by US-GAO to criticize FDA

The US Government Accountability Office (GAO) used the data obtained at Wesley College to criticize the FDA for not following its own rules. Normally, it’s pharmaceutical companies that come under the scrutiny of the FDA. However, in an interesting twist of fate, the FDA itself is now under fire for not enforcing its own rules.

Wesley welcomes pedestrian plaza

When Dom Zara first arrived on the Wesley College campus four years ago, it didn’t look like much of a campus at all. Cars whizzed through on city streets, and it was hard to tell where campus grounds ended and city neighborhoods began. Undergraduates Earn NASA Delaware Space Grant Undergraduate Tuition Award

Gabriel Fernandez-Bueno (biological chemistry junior) and Olivia Hampton (biology senior) each earned a $3,000 undergraduate tuition scholarship from the NASA Delaware Space Grant Consortium (DESGC) for 2012-2013. Each year this competitive award is presented to highly qualified applicants to conduct laboratory research at a DESGC institution. Wesley College Canned Food Drive Helps Needy

Students at Wesley College held a canned food drive this past week to benefit the Delaware Food Bank in conjunction with the 123=ABC Community Service project. Incoming freshmen worked with current students, faculty and staff to serve the community of Dover through the canned food drive and other activities at the Aug. 18 event. Undergraduate Research Published

In 2011, Wesley undergraduates Brett Sansbury (biological chemistry major) and Olivia Hampton (biology major) began their EPSCoR/INBRE supported summer internship in chemistry under the direction of Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza, professor of chemistry. They completed their project analyzing a fungicidal para-substituted aryl thiocarbamate analog in Spring 2012.
