President of I.G. Burton Dealership Charlie Burton presented Wesley College with a 2013 Chevrolet 15 passenger van valued at nearly $38,000 to provide shuttle service from the main campus to the new Health Sciences Building located on South New Street.
The addition of the Health Sciences Building was acquired at no cost to the College through the federal government. The former Frear Federal Building was decommissioned in April 2009 at which time Wesley submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Education and received the keys to the 36,000 square foot building in December 2012. The estimated value of the building alone is $3.6 million.
“The Wesley community is indebted to Charlie Burton for his generosity and service to the students of Wesley College,” said Wesley Vice President for Institutional Advancement Chris Wood. “The entire region is stronger as a result of the Burton family’s community contributions for generations.”
The Burton family has a long and committed relationship with Wesley College. Ann Burton, a 23-year trustee of the board, recently stepped down from active service is now a trustee emeritus. Her son, Charlie, is a Wesley alumnus and was appointed to the board in 2013.
“My mother’s dedication and enthusiasm for Wesley’s mission resonated with me and this donation is a testament to her commitment to the College and my continuation of her work,” Burton said.
