Undergraduates Earn NASA Delaware Space Grant Undergraduate Tuition Award
Gabriel Fernandez-Bueno (biological chemistry junior) and Olivia Hampton (biology senior) each earned a $3,000 undergraduate tuition scholarship from the NASA Delaware Space Grant Consortium (DESGC) for 2012-2013.
Each year this competitive award is presented to highly qualified applicants to conduct laboratory research at a DESGC institution. Fernandez-Bueno and Hampton are analyzing the reactions of chloroformate esters that are common ingredients in the synthesis of useful chemical compounds. This work in organic chemistry will be completed under the direction of Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza, professor of chemistry.
Hampton will also analyze the nest box site preference in Eastern Screech-Owls as part of her senior thesis under the direction of Dr. Kathleen Curran, professor of biology and chair of science.
