Wesley Graduate Research Published

10.17.2012

Brian P. Mahon (B.S. Biological Chemistry – Wesley College 2010) completed an INBRE/EPSCoR sponsored undergraduate research project in organic chemistry that was mentored by Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza, professor of chemistry. The compound analyzed in this project has been used in the preparation of herbicides, pesticides and antifungal agents and, in particular, in the preparation of promising antitumor agents. Mahon first had the opportunity to present his undergraduate research work at the Posters on the Hill event in April 2010 and this October, his research was published in the recent issue of the European Journal of Chemistry.

After graduating from Wesley, Mahon secured a year-long internship-position at Merck Laboratories, NJ. Currently Mahon is enrolled in the Ph.D. program at University of Florida College of Medicine - Interdisciplinary Program in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.
