Wesley Honored at Capital Mentoring Program Awards

On May 30, Capital School District held an awards ceremony to honor volunteer mentors and community partners in Dover. Wesley student Kadija Erskine-Michel was named “Mentor of the Year” for the Central Middle School. Wesley’s Department of Political and Social Science also received the “Community Partner of the Year” award.As part of Dr. Jessica James’ Contemporary Social Problems course, students must complete 25 hours of community service and reflect on their time each week. Wesley Nursing Department Supports Luther Towers

The Wesley College Nursing Department secured grant funds to assist the elderly population in Kent County. The grant allowed the Nursing Department to provide Luther Towers with updated computers and software through the Palmer Foundation. Luther Towers is a residential facility for low-income elderly in Kent County. The institution consists of six buildings with independent living apartments for the residents. The Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce nominated Wesley College for an Excellence in Business Award – Corporation of the Year category. The chamber nominated three corporations to compete for votes from other Chamber members. Wesley College Faculty Member Named NCAA Division III FAR Fellow

Wesley College Associate Professor of Kinesiology Raymond Phillips has been named one of the NCAA Division III FAR Fellows allowing him to attend a conference underwritten by NCAA. A FAR Fellow, or a Faculty Athletics Representative, is appointed by the FAR Institute planning committee in order to serve as a liaison between the NCAA and the institution. Burris Named Academic All-District For Track/XC

Four-sport athlete Tristin Burris has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America® District II Track & Field/Cross Country team and will be a candidate for Academic All-America® honors later which will be announced in June. To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, the student-athlete must be a key starter or reserve and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point-average.

Wesley College Athlete Matt Bundy Places Fourth Nationally in 110 Hurdles

Sprinter Matt Bundy finished fourth in the 110m hurdles at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at Burns Stadium on May 26. Bundy's time of 14.49 earned him All-America honors and he is the first runner in Wesley College history to earn that distinction.

Wesley College Professor Wins 2012 Reid Award for Outstanding Teaching in Chemistry

Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza, professor of chemistry at Wesley College, in Dover, Delaware, has won the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) 2012 E. Emmett Reid Award, which recognizes high-quality teaching in chemistry at small colleges in the ACS Mid-Atlantic region.  D’Souza has published 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and mentored more than 100 undergraduate students since 1992.
