Students at Wesley College held a canned food drive this past week to benefit the Delaware Food Bank in conjunction with the 123=ABC Community Service project. Incoming freshmen worked with current students, faculty and staff to serve the community of Dover through the canned food drive and other activities at the Aug. 18 event. In 2011, Wesley undergraduates Brett Sansbury (biological chemistry major) and Olivia Hampton (biology major) began their EPSCoR/INBRE supported summer internship in chemistry under the direction of Dr. Malcolm J. D’Souza, professor of chemistry. They completed their project analyzing a fungicidal para-substituted aryl thiocarbamate analog in Spring 2012. Senior placekicker Dan Tryon is one of 44 players to be named to the Fred Mitchell Award Watch List, it was announced Wednesday morning. The Fred Mitchell Award is awarded to the nation's top collegiate placekicker among more than 750 FCS, Division II, III, NAIA and NJCAA Football Teams.
Wesley College Director of Athletics Mike Drass has announced that Dayna Hinton will take over as head cheerleading coach for the 2012-13 season. The current dance director of Dream Allstars in Gaithersburg, Md., Hinton replaces Akia Jenkins who resigned earlier this summer.
